Black Belt
Black Belt is a private Brazilian jiu-jitsu training journal. It logs your sessions, shows your consistency and belt journey, and can optionally display wellness context from Apple Health or WHOOP. There is no account, and the live journal stays on your device. Manual logging works fully offline. If you enable iCloud Drive backup, one sanitized recovery archive is stored in your iCloud.
Health permissions belong to iOS, not to the app. Open the iOS Settings app → Privacy & Security → Health → Black Belt, or use the Health app's sharing settings, to grant, narrow, or revoke access at any time. The app reflects denied or partial permission with a limited state, and manual logging is never affected. If you enabled writing workouts to Health, you can turn that off the same way or from the session's Health options in the app.
The app reconciles imports before creating anything. An imported workout is matched first by the provider's stable identifier, then by its start time and duration against nearby existing sessions; a workout that matches an existing session is linked to it instead of creating a new one. Sessions you logged manually are never overwritten by an import. If a workout's recorded time differs substantially from your manual entry, it can still appear as a separate imported session — delete the one you don't want.
Disconnect WHOOP from the app's integration settings (Health & Recovery). Disconnecting asks WHOOP to revoke the app's access and removes the tokens stored in your device Keychain. You can also revoke access from your WHOOP account settings on WHOOP's side. Previously imported wellness summaries remain in your local journal. To remove only retained WHOOP data, choose Delete WHOOP data in Health & Recovery and confirm the separate deletion. You can stay connected; a later import can add new WHOOP data.
In Health & Recovery, choose Delete Apple Health data and confirm the deletion. This removes Black Belt's local Apple Health imports and links. It doesn't delete records from the Health app. Manual and edited sessions stay in your journal, while untouched imported sessions may be removed. Future imports can add new Apple Health data.
Settings → Local Journal offers two different options:
Restore uses the file picker, so you remain in control of which archive replaces the local journal.
Settings → Local Journal offers an explicit, confirmed erase. It removes the local journal, WHOOP tokens, reminders, retention preferences, Health import-category choices, local diagnostics, a pending restore, owned temporary copies, and the app's iCloud backup files. It confirms through iCloud metadata that the published archive and all valid staging attempts are absent before continuing. It attempts to remove workouts Black Belt created in Apple Health when permission allows. If iCloud is unavailable or confirmation times out, erase reports a retryable failure instead of claiming that the cloud copy is gone.
While restore or erase is finishing, Black Belt shows a full-screen progress message and disables the rest of the app. It rejects conflicting or stale Local Journal actions, won't start a new cloud backup inside that operation, and won't commit a restore while a cloud mutation is active. Erase also removes app-owned temporary journal and diagnostics copies before deleting the live journal; a cleanup failure keeps the erase retryable.
Your subscription entitlement isn't journal data and remains available after erase. Black Belt deletes its local App Attest key identifier, so that protected key is no longer reused. A residual public verification and replay record stays at the verifier because the current protocol has no authenticated remote-delete operation; it contains no journal, health data, token, or WHOOP account association. Erasure is otherwise permanent unless you kept an archive outside the app.
Open Settings → Reminders and check the delivery status under Notification access; the streak options themselves are the Journal check-ins toggles further down that same screen. If permission hasn't been decided, choose Allow notification access. If iOS denied permission, use Open Settings. iOS controls final delivery timing; Black Belt keeps the preference visibly inactive when permission isn't available. When you return from iOS Settings, Black Belt re-checks permission and arms any still-relevant trial-ending reminder without requiring a restart.
Your subscription is billed by the App Store. Manage or cancel it from Settings → Subscription in the app, which opens Apple's system subscription sheet, or from the iOS Settings app under your Apple Account → Subscriptions. The one-time Founder lifetime unlock is a non-consumable purchase and has nothing to manage there.
To restore a purchase on a new device or after reinstalling, use Restore Purchases on the paywall or Settings → Subscription. An inconclusive network response doesn't replace a previously entitled offline state. App Store account, product, and sandbox issues may still require Apple or subscription-provider support.
The app never silently resets your journal. Startup storage problems show a recovery screen with explicit options, and journal deletion always requires confirmation. If you see a recovery screen, do not reinstall the app — contact support first.
Email support@andeslabs.ai. Include your iOS version, the app version shown in Settings, and what you were doing. You can export bounded on-device crash and hang records from Settings → Diagnostics.
Never send a journal archive unless support explicitly requests it and you understand that it contains private training data; prefer describing the problem first.
